The problem is that many of these claims can be misleading, and environmentalists have coined a new term to describe this process: “greenwashing.” Greenwashing merges the words “green,” representing environmental friendliness, and “whitewashing,” representing the covering up of wrongdoing. In simplified terms, greenwashing is falsely claiming a product is environmentally friendly when it’s not.

According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, that represents 60 million people in the United States alone. A recent study conducted by Harris Interactive indicated that the vast majority of US homeowners believe that their family’s health is directly related to the cleanliness of their floors. The same study indicated that of all the flooring alternatives available, the majority of homeowners believe that wood floors are most effective at improving indoor air quality.
